Welcome to the Brookville-Seminary Valley Civic Association (BSVCA).
Our Community
The Brookville-Seminary Valley neighborhood was developed in the post-war landscape of the 1950s, with a variety of homes that included mid-century style split-foyer and split level, ranch, and cape cod floor plans on spacious lots. Initially drawing the families of the quickly expanding federal workforce in the 1950s, today Brookville-Seminary Valley boasts a friendly residential community with families and residents from diverse backgrounds and across many sectors of the local economy. The neighborhood has many long-time residents as well as newcomers and young families, all drawn to the convenience and friendly neighborhood.
Located conveniently inside the beltway, with easy access to I-395, the neighborhood is an ideal location for commuters, shoppers, and nature seekers alike. The presence of nearby Holmes Run Trail, playgrounds, mature trees, bike lanes, and broad sidewalks are a boon to families, pedestrians, and cyclists. While driving or commuting from the neighborhood to attractions and workplaces in Alexandria and beyond are convenient, it’s just as easy to walk to the Beatley Library, West End Farmer’s Market, shops and grocery stores, as well as many West End local dining favorites. Clearly, living in the Brookville-Seminary Valley area is an ideal way to fulfill work, social, family, and recreational needs, a friendly suburban neighborhood with the draw of modern urban conveniences.
There are two elementary schools in the neighborhood: Patrick Henry School (pre-K through 8) on Taney Avenue and James K. Polk Elementary School (Pre-K through 8) on Polk Avenue. The City of Alexandria has one high school, Alexandria City High School, home of the famous Titans. The new Patrick Henry Recreation Center on Taney Avenue offers recreation, after-school, and other family activities.
While the faces making up the neighborhood have changed since the 1950s, what remains the same is the friendly and neighborly spirit, making Brookville Seminary Valley a highly sought after location to call home.
The Brookville Seminary Valley Civic Association
The Brookville Seminary Valley Civic Association (BSVCA) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the best interests and general welfare of the residents of the Brookville-Seminary Valley neighborhood. Occasionally, BSVCA gets involved in matters outside the scope of the community that directly impact the residents of the City of Alexandria at large.
The BSVCA area forms a rough square, bordered by Polk Avenue on the north, Holmes Run Creek (excluding Willow Run Apartments and Brookville Townhomes), North Van Dorn Street on the west, and Jordan Street on the east (excluding Foxchase Apartments and the Foxchase Shopping Center). KMS Townhouses are part of the BSVCA area.
